A lightning storm passed through late Thursday August 26th and sparked a number of fires nearby. One of our neighbors had a lightning strike to a tree and it started a crown fire that was quickly extinguished due to the quick response by the Garden Valley Fire Fighters.
Just down the Banks Lowman highway about two miles from our house another fire started as well. By Friday afternoon they were closing / delaying traffic on the Banks Lowman Highway so that they could fight the fire. Thick plumes of black smoke could be seen. A heavy attack by ground personnel as well as Air Tankers and Helicopters were able to make good progress on it.
As I write this, they are still closing the Banks Lowman highway at night due to rock fall and smoke, and running a pilot car during the day with 1 hour delays. The fire is now 80% contained at about 650 acres.
Thank you to all the firefighters who helped get this under control!
