2 The exchange of notes of 30 September 1929 concerning an Agreement between Canada and the Hellenic Republic providing for the reciprocal exemption of income from the operation of ships from income tax is terminated. Its provisions shall be repealed with effect from the date on which the corresponding provisions of this Convention referred to in paragraph 1 take effect. (b) by another agreement concluded by a Contracting State. 3 The competent authorities of the States Parties shall endeavour to eliminate, by mutual agreement, any difficulty or doubt as to the interpretation or application of the Convention. They may also consult each other on the elimination of double taxation in cases not provided for in the Convention. Note As shown in the table, a U.S. worker employed in Greece can only be covered by U.S. Social Security if he or she works for a U.S. employer. ==Employer includes a corporation organized under the laws of the United States or another state, a partnership if at least two-thirds of its partners are established in the United States, a person established in the United States, or a trust if all directors are established in the United States. The term also includes a foreign subsidiary of a U.S.
employer where the U.S. employer has entered into an agreement with the Internal Revenue Service, pursuant to Section 3121(l) of the Internal Income Code for the payment of social security taxes for U.S. citizens and residents employed by the subsidiary. While the agreement between the U.S. and Greece allows the Social Security Administration to count your Greek loans to help you qualify for retirement, disability, or survive benefits in the U.S., the agreement does not cover Medicare benefits. As a result, we cannot count your loans in Greece to benefit from free Medicare medical insurance. (d) Where the natural national of both States or neither of them is a national, the competent authorities of the States Parties shall decide by mutual agreement on the matter. The Social Security Agreement between Canada and Greece entered into force on May 1, 1983. .
