We spent several days in Khatmandu getting ourselves and our gear ready and then flew into Lhasa, Tibet for a good dose of altitude shock! We acclimated to the altitude over four days exploring Lhasa its People, Temples and Stupas. After a few days in Lhasa we drove through a series of cities getting ever higher until we transitioned to foot. At reach city we did some acclimation hikes, seeing the city, and getting ready.

We hiked over a period of days (instead of driving) to Everest Basecamp. From there we gradually made our way through camps I, II, and III on the way to advanced basecamp. We had a bit of snow on the way up the glaciated route, and Denise struggled a bit with altitude. But we made it to advanced basecamp at over 20,000 ft.

Both of us were pretty fatigued for the four days we spent at advanced basecamp but we did make the little push to a pass between Nepal and Tibet at about 23,000 ft. But, we never did make Lakpa Ri. It was just too much.

Half of the party made the climb. The following day we began our rapid return to the lowland and into Nepal (this time by car).
